Labours of Kindness
Yesterday I walked by an older gentleman that had raked his leaves into perfect rows with lovely green grass as the backdrop. We exchanged smiles and hellos and I walked on dwelling on the beauty he created in a mundane task.
On the way back I past by him again and paused a little longer to comment that he was just about done. This stately gentleman remarked that it was not his house, he lived next door and felt bad that his neighbors had to put up with all the leaves from his tree.
There he was sitting on a stool, hunched over bagging leaves out of kindness for his neighbor. Wow, I have no idea how many years this has been happening but the selfless gift of his labours were a greater beauty that I took home in my heart.
